Recently I presented an online session with the title “Working with Very Large Tables Like a Pro in SQL Server 2016”. The session was hosted in the PASS Database Administration Virtual Group. You might be surprised, but I was talking about how to work with very large tables in SQL Server. I was also talking about how to leverage some of the new features in SQL Server 2014/2016 (“like a pro”) in order to make your life easier when you work with those very large tables.

The session focuses around 4 areas of working with very large tables:

• Managing the table using partitioning or the new Stretch Database feature in SQL Server 2016
• Querying the table efficiently with the New Cardinality Estimator, Incremental Statistics, and more…
• Loading data into the table with Delayed Durability transactions
• Maintaining the table with online index rebuilds and other cool stuff…

Learning from the past, we decided to split the session into two parts. This way, we had enough time to cover all the stuff I wanted to share with you, and there was also enough time for questions.
