Hi all
Quick question - is it possible to upgrade from Standard Edition to Developer? We have server that is due to go into Production in the new year but we are still testing performance. We have discovered some performance issues that we expect will be resolved in Enterprise, but want to upgrade to Developer just to see.
If that's not possible, if we upgrade to Enterprise but then want to downgrade later back to Standard, is that possible?
Thanks

have a look at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/supported-version-and-edition-upgrades-2019?source=recommendations&view=sql-server-ver16 and https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/upgrade-to-a-different-edition-of-sql-server-setup?view=sql-server-ver16
and https://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/6686/edition-upgrade-and-downgrade-in-sql-server/ - but risky

Since you're talking non-production environments, I'd suggest doing side-by-side installs so you can be more assured of your results. Upgrading, and downgrading, are always fraught with potential issues. You just want to test behaviors. Focus on that rather than moving your servers up & down the licensing chain.

My question is what specific issues are you having that you would expect to be resolved by an edition upgrade?
And, I'm with Grant. A side by side comparison is the way to go
