On our Azure Managed Instance we capture deadlock information using an extended events.
No I extraced a single deadlock graph and stored it in a .XDL file, so it can be opened by SSMS and rendered into a graphic.
The reason for this is that the XE stores such data starting with
<event name="xml_deadlock_report" package="sqlserver" timestamp="2022-10-20T12:37:59.739Z">
<data name="xml_report">
<type name="xml" package="package0" />
<value>
<deadlock>
...
</deadlock>
</value>
</data>
</event>
Once I remove these elements and keep only
<deadlock>
...
</deadlock>
SSMS (as wel as SentryOne PlanExplorer) renders it all fine.
Bug or Feature ?
