In the future, it really won't matter as much. The cloud is really making trying all database engines easier for organizations. For example, in Azure, you can basically try Azure SQL, PostgreSQL and MySQL on top of other approaches like CosmosDB and MongoDB. There will really be no need to talk to marketing guys or having long looks at licensing terms. Just pick one and go. If it doesn't work out, destroy, pick another flavor, and go!
The real debate is going to be how many databases per environment you want to maintain, scalability, and as always, compliance and security.
