Cube permission question

  • Hi,
I need to restrict dimension attribute data for specific user groups with SSAS 2012 - multi-dimensional.
I believe I can do this by putting users in a specific AD group - and then adding to an SSAS role with said attributes removed along with visual totals selected.
The question I have is.  Will this effect all measure values i.e. lets say there is a measure group for InternetSales and a dimension called SalesRegion.   Assuming there is a relationship between Measure group and the Dimension.  Lets say I remove the attribute  (dimension data) for Northern from SalesRegion.   I assume InternetSales will be the Total Sales for all SalesRegions except Northern (with Visual Totals selected).
Now if there is another measure group ResellerSales which is also linked to the dimension SalesRegion.  Then can I assume ResellerSales will be TotalResellerSales except Northern i.e. restricting Dimension effects all measure groups linked to that dimension.
    Is my thinking correct?
I can also guess that any measure groups not linked to the dimension will not be effected by permissions on such dimensions.  Is this correct?

  • I created a test role and it seems to work as expected.   One other setting I had to make was set properties for measure group property (for unrelated measures)
IgnoreUnrelatedDimensions = False  (Default is true).

The maturity of SSAS is certainly a benefit in this case 🙂
