MS are disabling basic authentication October 2022 for Exchange online. see
Although the link says
SMTP AUTH will still be available when Basic authentication is permanently disabled on October 1, 2022. The reason SMTP will still be available is that many multi-function devices such as printers and scanners can't be updated to use modern authentication. However, we strongly encourage customers to move away from using Basic authentication with SMTP AUTH when possible. Other options for sending authenticated mail include using alternative protocols, such as the Microsoft Graph API.
So my Database Mail should continue to work as It only sends emails authenticating by basic authentication?
Are there any plans to replace DatabaseMail to authenticate with stronger protocols than basic.
Concerned as I use Database mail heavily.
Thanks

I have the same question. It appears that Basic Auth will continue with SMTP. I see no patches or updates to SQL Server versions allowing for OAUTH 2.0. Would be nice for someone to confirm.

Hi there,
I've read that SMTP auth will not be revoked - but this is still a very scary proposition. We use database mail heavily. Google and forums are not providing much help here.
Is there any update on this?
