Happy New Year!

,

Good Bye 2020Let’s make 2021 a year where we protect our mental health.

Looking back at 2020 no one could predict a global pandemic and the chaos that it would cause worldwide with the economy and people’s lives.  The overload of what happened in 2020 caused a lot more mental health challenges for folks including myself.  I found some stats that were interesting and would like to share.  I would like to also share that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!  If you are having problems reach out and talk to someone, seek professional help if you need it.

  • 450 million people currently suffer from a mental illness, according to a report published by the World Health Organization.
  • 1 in 4 Americans currently suffers from at least one mental illness.
  • 80% of people suffering from a schizophrenic disorder can reduce symptoms and the possibility of relapses, via medical help, therapy, and family assistance.
  • Around 9.5% of US citizens above 18 years old encounter a depressive illness every year.
  • In the UK, 1 in 3 college students has dealt with a serious psychological issue. Similarly, 1 in 5 teens suffer from a mental illness, yet many avoid seeking help.
  • In late June, 40% of U.S. adults reported struggling with mental health or substance use.
  • More pandemic related mental health effects are described here by Forbes magazine.

If you have not watched my presentation on mental health I encouraged you to just because I know people have told me it helps. If nothing else skipped towards the end and get the tips on helping get through a pandemic.  The video can found be on my presentations page.  Some basic tips:

  • Get some exercise
  • Eat healthy
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Stay socially connected with people
  • Disconnect from the news and social media if needed
  • Seek professional help if needed
