Patching Service Pack

    HI All,

    I wonder if I stop DTC ( Distribution Transaction Coordinator ) before I start SQL Patching , Does it cause outage ?

    Because user reports they can’t connect to database .

    FYI : I don’t stop SQL server and SQL server services

    Many appreciate for any feedback

    What patches? Some patches will be putting the server in single user mode when they run.

    I applied Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2008 R2 . I am thinking to apply Service pack 3

    What do you think ?

    I think the service packs will shut down SQL Server as the binaries are replaced.
