Hi All,
Suppose, if users complaints that I am not able to connect to sql server box.
How do we go about troubleshooting such issues as a sql server dba and how can we isolate things if it is sql or something else.
Any troubleshooting tips as a dba what can we do in such situations? Any quick tests we can do before we can engage server team?
What kind of proactive steps we can take to avoid such situations?

Ask the user for any error messages they are getting.
Check the SQL server error log for any errors, especially around error 18456.
Does the user in question have access to login to SSMS and connect to that server?
Have they been put into the correct AD groups if your company uses them and you setup SQL security via AD groups?
Can they ping the server?
