Hello There,
I recently started learning SSRS; tried to create a data source in VS Report Designer tool. I have a concern here: what is the difference between creating a Data Source from project pane and from Report Data Pane in report designer tool?
While tried to create a data source from Report Data Pane, I found 2 options to select as follows:
Would anyone please help me understand my concerns?
Thank you for giving your valuable time!

The difference in how you create them, there is essentially none. If you create a shared data source from the report builder window, it will create the exact same file (rdl) on disk. The ONLY differences are that if you create it from the report builder you need to refresh your project file list for it to show up in the project side of things AND that from the report builder window you can create embedded data sources that don't have a separate rdl file on disk which you can't create from the project window.
The above is all just my opinion on what you should do.
As with all advice you find on a random internet forum - you shouldn't blindly follow it. Always test on a test server to see if there is negative side effects before making changes to live!
I recommend you NEVER run "random code" you found online on any system you care about UNLESS you understand and can verify the code OR you don't care if the code trashes your system.
