How to attach a report (i.e. RDL "converted/exported" already to Excel) within a report (RDL)?

  • Dearest administrators and members,

Hello, and a pleasant day to everyone.

I am currently working on a report (RDL) that needs an attachment, and this attachment is of type Excel file.

Previously, I worked on RDL in such a way that all the rows (retrieved from a database using a stored procedure) were displayed in the report. But, the client wants to change it in such a way that the report is like a "letter" and the result of the rows will be attached to the report, and it will display an excel icon.

I am having difficulty where and how to start. It is my first time to work on RDL with attachment.

For reference, I have attach an image of what I am trying to do.

Please advise. Any idea or step by step beginner approach would be appreciated.

Thank you and more power. 🙂

    Respectfully Yours,

    Mark Squall

  • As far as I know there is no way to do this in the report itself. However.

You can create a subscription for that report and set the delivery to email the report as an excel document.

You can in the comments section when setting up the subscription add the text you want in the message body of the email and even include HTML Tags.

  • Dear michael.higgins:

Thank you for the tip you gave me. I tried them and its successful! :w00t:

But what if the client want some design on the email (you know company logo, long boxes with color motifs, font motifs, headers and footer with both have designs too, etc.).

That is why my initial concept is to design an RDL for this letter type email; then another RDL for the result attached as Excel to that RDL (thanks to you!). But if there's (really) no other way, is that mean I will design this manually in the comments section?

Again, thank you for the information you gave before (the link), and the sample screenshot. It was easy to follow. 😀

    Warm regards,

    Mark Squall

  • If your wanting to get into formats for different customers and logos it may be worth trying a HTML tag to an image on the web for the company logo ? Also a different subscription for each customer / client.

I honestly can't see any way to attach a report as excel inside another report.
