Is it mandatory to restart windows server when updating cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 & 2005? I am going to install a cumulative update in a clustered server. Please let me know if its enough to failover the services or do I have to go for restart of a windows server?
Now, if the server needs a reboot or not it depends of what services are running at the time of the update. If the CU touches any of those, it may require a server reboot.
