I started to add a daily coping tip to the SQLServerCentral newsletter and to the Community Circle, which is helping me deal with the issues in the world. I’m adding my responses for each day here. All my coping tips are under this tag.
Today’s tip is to build on new ideas by thinking “Yes, and what if …”
New ideas. Embracing new ideas is easy when they are your own. When someone else has an idea, sometimes I struggle to not nitpick or find the potential issues. I’m working to be more positive and think, sure, how can we make this happen and make it better.
We were working on a project at work, and I was asked to help. This was a new way of doing a presentation, and I wasn’t sure I was comfortable. I was initially thinking this might not work well and it’s be a hassle. Fortunately, I decided to keep my mouth shut and instead embrace the idea.
I agreed to help, asked about what I could do to help. Then I added a few thoughts that might have improved things. Some people liked and adopted, some they didn’t. Both were fine, and I’m glad that I helped build on their idea lightly.
