Hi all,
I have created several Maintenance Plans in the past - I now want to modify one of them .....
So a simple right click on the selected plan and ..... nothing ... ziltch ...
I can Execute and view history ... but not modify - it does appear in the list in a BOLD FONT.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have now tested this issue on the Test Server that is running SQL 2008 R2 -
Modify is still in bold - but it does allow me to modify !?
Is there a permissions or "Microsoft Feature" issue here ?

Are you sure you are using an ID that has 'sa' rights?

I hate to post other sites on here, but the following is most likely the why and how of what you are running into.

Elroy: Nope.
George: Then lie to me and say you're kidding.

Another thought is are you sure you are using the Management Studio version the same version as the SQL Server the Maint. plan is on?

Hi -
Yes the user account has privileges and also tried the SA account
-
SSMS is 2008 R2 - Sql Server is running SQL 2005 !
Here's a question on that topic though ... what if I changed/modified the MP in SQL 2012 SSMS..... ? would that be an issue ?
I have 2012 SSMS still installed on my local PC - will try that - just to rule that out.

You could have problems. Use the same version of Mgt Studio for the same version of SQL Server when creating and maintaning Maint plans.

Yes I agree - I think it might be that - as I was testing the BI functions within 2012 - and may have changed the 2005 MP's on the production server - not 100% sure - but possibly.
So the question is - how do I maintain it now if that is the case - to revert back to SQL 2005 SSMS -
I will be upgrading to 2008 next week though - possibly resolve it then.
Thanks for your input.

Log into the SQL2005 server and go into Mgt Studio, open up the Maint plan and just do a save and see if it saves it. That may reset it. If not, you may have to delete it and recreate it.

This is the bit that I cannot do .... when I click on Modify - SSMS does nothing, it will not open the plan ! - which is the problem.
I will upgrade next week to SQL 2008 R2, then check the plans - If I can modify - problem solved, if not, simple enough to recreate.
Thanks
