I am new to this forum, but have been lover for the articles.nice site ,very worth full
In my comapny, presently the sql 2005 Ent is running and planned for the 2008 upgrade, had been delaying for some reason to complete all of the aplication related databases to migrate and now come to the decisions that any new database must to go to SQL 2012
We are now thinking of upgrade of remaining database to the SQL 2012 by placing related binaries on 2nd instnace in an existing cluster, as 2012 going to be longer support as well as to gain some new features
I am gone through search and found that, MS tells these above two versions are compatible to fit in the same server but i am not known whether it's same valid for on cluster.
For sake of getting clarifications to some of my questions from the experts, who's environments are similar to those above scenarios. i have placing the concerns below
If we place the 2008R2 and 2012 (latest) to on each separate instance on cluster (windows 2008 R2). Everyhting is 64 bit enterprise
1.How effective the laying two different binaries running on same cluster and the co-ordination of shard components during the applying of service packs?. Is there any Ms recommends do special recommndation during patch appliying process?
2.What would be maintenance issues with the SQL cluster during fail over.
3. other recommendations like pre-requistics components to check to suitable for both the versions on server proir Isntall the SQL.
I appreciate your comments and thoughts

2008R2 and 2012 will live quite happily, i've had no issues with both installed in a cluster
