I have an existing instance of SQL 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Over the weekend, I installed an instance of SQL 2008 (non-R2) Evaluation edition to practice for the 70-432 exam.
I wanted to include the Performace Tools in the installation, but the Management Tools - Complete option was greyed out with a message explaining that Management Tools - Basic was installed with a later version, and I should add the Complete Tools from that install file.
I believe Express does not include the Management Tools - Complete option, so I thought I could launch the Express Setup Wizard, remove Manage Tools, and then install the full set using the 2008 Evaluation version wizard. But the Express install Wizard had Management Tools greyed out also. I didn't see a way to unstall them.
I'd prefer not to completely uninstall SQL 2008 R2 Express. Is there another way to use the Performance Tools? I'm thinking of setting up a VM and installing just the Management Tools there.
