At my company the SQL dbas set up the SQL cluster. As part of the SQL cluster we've implemented mount points. My question is out to those that use the mount points. Who sets up you mount points in your company. Also, is there any MS documentation supporting either group supporting mount points?

I'm unsure what your real question is.
It is typically the networking/admin folks job to build up the base machine and often to build the underlying cluster and presentation of the drives to the machines. However, the final decisions about the drive layout is often left to the DBA who is expected to have knowledge about optimal layouts and best practices. I expect the hardware folks to keep the machine running, the network live and the drives alive.
I am expected to keep the SQL running smoothly and provide expert consultations to development. Last cluster I built I specified the drive layouts beyond C (OS) and Q (quorum).
Can you clarify what you are asking if I have not answered your question.

Well, we do it as a team effort. The DBAs request sizes from the SAN, the SAN admin presents the LUN for use by the OS, and then the server admins will connect them for us in most cases.

Sry. My question is vague. Although it's of a request for feedback as to where the "handoff" between the SA and the Dba I. Terms if a new install. As mentioned earlier our request for space from the San team and dhe windows team presents the new disk. However, since my company uses mount points instead of using alot of drive letters I prefer to set up the new lun as a mount point as I see fit for the SQL build. Or if we want to add a new data file or new data base requiring it's own Lun, the use of mount points makes it clean and easy to add storage. I wanted to know who sets up the mount points in other shops. I'm merely curious as to how other groups separate their roles out between the SA and Dba groups. Am I making more sense?

The OS folks pressent the drive to the machine and I usually handle the mounting. But I have a concern with the "as I see fit" comment. We have an agreed general layout so they have an idea where it is going to end up. I don't see much difference in the cases where mount points are used. I like to handle the mounting myself, within the agreed general layout. In the cases of drives I usually ask for it to be mounted at a specific letter that I have already verified is open.
I hope that was clearer.

Yes when I mean 'as I see fit' is to be interpreted to mean that I will follow DBA standards my team have already put in place.
Thanks for your input.

Which is just fine. I strongly believe in standards, even ones I must follow.

Yup, it's usually a task of the system admin or SANadmin to present the LUNs or the mount points but if you know ver well how to do it and your company allows you to do so go ahead.
