SSRS Exporting issues when client has multiple versions of Excel

  • Our users have two versions of Excel (2003 & 2007) on their machines. We have several reports that return more than 65K records. By default SSRS is looking for the 2003 version and failing when the users export the report because of the limitations of Excel 2003. The obvious solution would be to uninstall Excel 2003 - but this is not an option. Is there a way to tell SSRS to look for the 2007 version first? We are using SSRS 2008. (we are not on R2).

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Beth

  • Actually - the problem is not that they have both versions - they do not. However it seems SSRS 2008 is using the same constraints as Excel 2003. I guess the question is - how can I allow users to export large datasets directly into Excel?

  • Export to a tab delimited file and import that to Excel.

Export to a tab delimited file and import that to Excel.

Does that import in the correct format? Does it keep calculated columns on the report or that csv is just the dataset?
