How the records got saved in Mirror DB when it was actualy stopped.

  • Hi All,

    Was testing Mirroring..

I set up everything and then stopped "Mirror server".

Inserted a million records in one of the table in principal.

When I opened "Database Mirroring Monitor" I got as in the attached file.

My doubt is that, When the "Mirroring State" was still "disconnected" and mirror DB was not available, when that 50+ MB data got saved in mirror DB.?

Later I restarted Mirror server, checked and found all those 1 miillion records.

How and when it happend I dont udnerstand.

Can anyone just explain the data I attached..

Note - SQL Server 2008 Evaluation Edition.

    Thanks in advance.

    San.

  • the records would have remained in the transaction log until the mirror was backup and running.

  • In principal database log.?

I am not able to fully understand the attached log...

    Can anyone exlain pls....

    Thanks for the quick response.

  • All Transactions are logged in the transaction log,

when you mirror servers everything from the transaction log get "replayed" on the mirror server.

when you stopped the mirror all the transactions would stay in the transaction log until the mirror server had applyed them.

So when you restarted the mirror the mirror Db would replay the logs from the principal.

I am aware about it. Pls see the attachment.

My doubt is that how the "Unsent Log" became '0' when the Mirror database was down ?

    Thanks.
