Hey Buddies,
I am a newbie in Oracle world. Also in here. In Fact I am a MySQL expert. I want to know that how much difference between Oracle and MySQL? I heard that some experts are talking that Oracle is much complex then MySQL and also its very difficult to learn. So I am lil bit afraid to start learning Oracle. Can anyone tell me how much effort should I give to learn Oracle?
If I start studying 3 hours each day will it be enough to complete learning Oracle within 6 months?
Need experts help...........
Thanks for replies.........:-)

I've only worked a little with either, yes Oracle is more complex. You'll probably get better answers to this on an Oracle board, rather than a SQL Server site.

Completely learn, or get a working knowledge of the basics? I've been studying & working with SQL Server over 6 years I haven't completely learnt it

Don't be afraid but do not think you are going to master Oracle in six months time.
Assuming you have access to Oracle in your day-to-day job I would complement that by...
1- building my own lab (I have one) this means you have a computer were you install Oracle, go for Ora11gR2. Oracle for educations purposes is license free 🙂 so, download and install.
2- use Oracle documentation which is free, is online and is the best documentation on Oracle you can find anywhere in the world.
Going back to your day-to-day job, ask you boos to get you a Metalink account/passowrd - Metalink is a Oracle what KB is a Microsoft and arguablle a little more.
Good luck.

I was actually referring to the actual Oracle Documentation Library... every single book ever published by Oracle, all free and well organized.
Try here for Ora10gR2... http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage

Both are good, both are implementations of the same underlying technology but they are different implementations.

No. They are not one and the same, they just share a common basic DNA like monkeys and humans do.
