Any good references on SQL 2008 Clustering?

  • Hi,

    Are there any good references on SQL 2008 clustering, including installation, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting etc.?

    BOL is no good IMO.

  • That would be something wouldn't it.

    SQL Server is managed in the same way you would manage a normal instance of SQL Server, what changes is the complexity of the underlying operating system. Items such as storage, IP addresses, DNS and network names are managed differently. This all changes again when moving from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008!

    You can download my cluster install guide at the following links. The guides are quite large so right click the link and select save as

    Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2008

    Windows 2008 and SQL Server 2008

    Only by setting up your own cluster from scratch and playing with it will you gain sufficient understanding and knowledge.

    Thank you for the info! I will be installing my 2nd cluster in a few days, it will be an active-active cluster.

    Any special precautions I should know about on active-active clusters?

    I will go through the links you provided.

    Thanks again!

    I think the 2 urls you provided are both for Win 2003;

    would you have the doc for Win 2008?

    Much appreciated.
