I installed sql server 2008 client tool only on my laptop. I am unable connect all server's by their IP address. I am able connect it by server name. But some of our server not in same domain, I have connect it using their IP address. It says timeout expired. I am able remote in one sql server (in 2008) then using my account connect to IP address. I guess this is my laptop or my client tool install problem. Any idea?

Have you verified connectivity on the network, and that the name you are using is the actual machine by IP you want? You should do some PINGing I think -- ping the IP address to see if the machine is online, and ping the names that work to see what IP address those names resolve to. If the name is set up correctly, you would almost never fail to connect by IP if connect by name works. And also Telnet is good to verify that the port is active -- make sure that something responds on that port.
