In-Place upgrade to SQL Server 2008 Vs Log shipping

  • Hi,

We have SQL Server 2005 EE x64 with SP3 and all the databases in that instance are configured with log shipping. Now the requirement is to In-place upgrade to SQL Server 2008 EE

    Question:

    1. Do I need to Disable the log shipping before starting the upgrading and reconfigure the log shipping from the scratch in new upgraded SQL Server 2008 insatnce? or

    2. Does the SQL Server log shipping automatically converted to SQL Server 2008 log shipping format?

    3. How to deal the same in Active/Passive cluster setup?

    Thanks

  • Hi Paul,

What happens to the secondary SQL Server 2005 instance, if we upgrade the primary SQL Server 2005 instance in which the databases were configured with log shipping to SQL Server 2008?

Will the secondary SQL Server 2005 instance also got upgraded to SQL Server 2008 automatically?

How to deal with the secondary SQL Server 2005 instance, after upgrading the Primary SQL Server 2005 instance to SQL Server 2008?

    Thanks

  • I do have the same question. Could you please advice on what tasks need to done to upgrade the secondary too, while upgrading the primary?

    thanks
