Do you mean... by clicking here and there? don't think so.
You can always convert data already in the affected table and write an after insert-update trigger to take care of new data.

Sure!
Look at the link I posted, customize the code so to write your own function and you are done 🙂 I would go with the storedproc/trigger combo rather than with a function but that's just my personal preference.
