How to Manage Very Large Database?

  • Hi,

I get a change to work with very large database around (750 GB). So my concern is that what should I do to manage properly of VLDB as Production DBA. What should be plan for Backup, Maintenance, Consistency, High availability etc.

My total experience is 4.7 Year & I have worked up 120 GB Database but now I got a change to work with very large database. please suggest best practices for VLDB.

  • That's a bit of a vague question. Can you be more specific as to what you're looking for? Also, is this a 24x7 uptime DB or do you have large maintenance windows? OLTP or data warehouse? What's the downtime allowance in case of a disaster? What's the data loss allowance in case of a major disaster? Clustered or standalone?

750GB is not all that big. It's large, but it's not really in the VLDB category
