SQL 2008 SP1 Install fails

  • Hi,

    I have a 2 Node MSSQL 2008(64),

Today when i tried to install SP 1 on the Passive node the SP1 Failed and the Error (detail.txt) shows

Warning: No matched disk size is detected for feature SQL_Engine_CLS_sql_engine_core_shared_loc_Cpu64_1028 and directory SystemDrive

On Searching i Net there were few suggestions to repair SQL 2008 Installation using the Repair option on "MS SQL Installation Center" to fix this issue.

    My Queries are

    1) Can i do a Repair of the SQl 2008 on the Passive node

    2) Will the repair cause any downtime to the SQL instance running on the Active Node

    3) Will i need to re-configure the SQL Cluster after the Repair

  • Can you post your summary.txt log and also please post detail.log file that is in the same folder.

is this the first node you are attempting to patch, if so, are you able to fail over the resources from node to node?

SQL Server 2008 allows you to easily maintain the SQL Server clustered instance on a node by node basis. The options

Create a new failover clustered instance

Add a node to a failover clustered instance

remove a node from a clustered sql server instance

    allow you to do this.

For future installations you may want to consider slipstreaming service pack 1 at install time!
