Just wondering if anybody did this trick before, i.e. configured Log Shipping between Sql Server 2005 Standard Ed as Primary and 2008 Web Ed as Secondary server? It seems each of these editions supports log shipping but can they work together? Could not find clear answer in BOL. Thanks,

The file formats are the same, so you can do this. However if you have features that you are using in the primary that aren't supported on the secondary, some code might not work.
If you are using the secondary just for DR, you don't need a second license, so you can install on a standby server if it's not used for anything else.

Thanks, Steve.
I know that one can restore 2005 backup to 2008 (but not opposite?)
but my main concern was regarding different Editions, I mean Standard to Web
(as I know for Mirroring for example this will not work). Anyhow, thanks again
