I'm not sure what you mean. The transaction log backup has nothing to do with an MDF. If you don't have an MDF, you have nothing to back up.
Perhaps you could describe a bit more what you are trying to do and what has or hasn't worked.

I'm guessing take a log tail backup after the MDF has been damaged, but that's a compete and total guess without lots more information.
