I have chance to reconfigure one server, configuration: 2 x 146, 4 x 400.
The first one should be for system, RAID 1, and another (4 x 400) are for data, RAID 5.
I wonder if I put logs on system disk, and the rest on RAID 5, will that affect performance.
In addition, anybody did something similar? I know the best practice is system and data separate,
but I am thinking about possible gain in performance.

Another configuration could be
RAID 1 - System (2x146Gb) - Total available 146 GB
RAID 1 - Data (2x400Gb) - Total available 400 GB
RAID 1 - Logs (2x400Gb) - Total available 400 GB
The configuration would also depend on the size of the databases you will be hosting. This is definitely not the best configuration for performance. If you have some flexibility in terms of the hardware, I would increase the number of disks to distribute the IOPS across more spindles. That again would depend on your situation.

Thank you for answer, but the only problem with that plan is that 400 is not enough for planed database. That's why I am trying to make some combination if possible.

Actually, you gave me an idea:
RAID 1 - System (2x146Gb) - Total available 146 GB
RAID 1 - (2x800Gb) - Total available 800 GB - both ldf and mdf.
My concern is performance than space.
RAID 1 is 20-25% faster than RAID 5, is that correct?
