PASS summit 2008

    I thought maybe a new thread was needed for PASS Summit 2008. Steve's editorial regarding the SSC party has generated a lot of should I go/ROI/tell me about the event posts, which are fine, but how about those who are going? I am. It will be my 2nd summit with the first being two years ago in Seattle as well.

    I had a great time last time and expect to repeat. I met some great folks - most of whom were somehow tied to Red Gate and it was about the same time they announced the purchase of this site - argued with some MVPs over great beers - learned quite alot - and enjoyed some good food (mostly outside of the conference center).

    I thought maybe this thread could help me be sure to do all of the above again but perhaps even better...

    Questions for those who are going, have been before, or are familiar with Seattle, in particular the area in walking distance to conference:

    - Any don't miss spots for food that I have to hit this time? Especially anything local or ethnic... Last time I ate fairly well, including PF chang's (which not unique to Seattle was a first for me), some shop in the fish market, and some other place on the water that I have no idea the name of. So, I have nothing to recommend to others on this question, looking for info.

    - Any better place to grab a beer than the brew pub a few blocks walk and over the bridge on the same road as the conf. center? Can't remember name of that place either but it was great. (Note to self, take better notes this time).

    - Any can't miss gathering other than SSC-night? Last time I mostly stumbled into them here and there.

    - What's going to be the can't miss, standing room only session of this conference? Or the shouldn't have missed, I was the only one there but it was incredible session of this conference?

    Getting siked, just wanted to hear from others going...

    The brewpub that I was referring to is Elysian Brewing Company. This place was great. It's a little bit of a walk from the conference center, but not too bad.

    I'm going. It'll be my first PASS summit although not my first time at the conference center. I've been to Seattle a lot over the years but I've always had a car. I also have a lousy sense of direction so I have no idea if the restaurants I've been to are within walking distance or not.

    This time I'm staying at the conference hotel and flying in so no car for me. I'll also be solo.

    I'm going. Second summit in Seattle.

    There's a very good Thai restaurant in a shopping center a couple blocks from the conference venue. I don't recall the name, it's the same one that has the Barnes and Noble in.

    Downtown isn't very big. Within 3 or 4 blocks, there are lots of restaurants. Just don't start walking uphill 🙂

    Gail - I think I've been to that one. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's slightly uphill so I don't think Steve would be interested. 😛

    I also remember a nice non-Starbucks coffee shop down the road. But then, this is Seattle so there's lots of those. Also lots of Starbucks.

    It's not that I don't want to go uphill, but there doesn't seem to be much uphill and close to the convention center. Much more if you head down towards the water.

    Hi. Seattle's really a cool city. About food, you can have all kinds but i particularly enjoy seafood over there. We have a few restaurants we go to when over there, but you might want to check out the Ho Ho, a seafood restaurant or the Brooklyn Seafood restaurant, one of our favourite restaurants. They have incredible seafood and some tasty steaks. You'll enjoy it!
