Thought I would share a note that I received from Nick Landry, Sr. Technical Evangelist for NY Metro & NJ, about the return of the NYC .NET Developers group. Worthy news for those like me in my neck of the woods, I am pleased to announce that after a yearlong hiatus, the group is back in a new home on Meetup:

For over 15 years, the NYC .NET Developers group (http://www.nycdotnetdev.com/) has been the premier community for Microsoft developers in NYC. When Nick first moved to New York City in 2004, that was the first user group he ever attended here and this is where he had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Brust, Data Platform MVP, original lead of the group, and many other influencers. Nick also had the opportunity to speak at the group on many occasions.
Let's thank Andrew Brust (MVP & RD) who co-led the group for all these years. He’s done a terrific job holding the reigns solo in recent years. We are thankful and grateful for his hard work with thousands of NYC developers over the last decade and a half. Andrew is now passing the torch to Kevin S. Goff and Lenni Lobel, two Microsoft MVPs in the NYC area, who graciously stepped-up to bring.NET to a new generation of developers. Andrew will continue to support the group as we transition the members from the old site to Meetup. Kevin will take the lead for now since Lenni is spending a lot of time on the West coast for work. If you want to help Kevin & Lenni as co-organizers of the group, please let them know.
The first meeting is already scheduled for TONIGHT, 1/21 where Nick will present the new .NET: cross-platform and Open Source. For AGENDA & REGISTRATION, click here now! They will be holding the meetings, of course, in Microsoft's NYC Metro HQ @ 11 Times Square, the 3rd Thursday of each month. Each month, they will bring you top speakers, product giveaways, and great community networking, all for FREE. Definitely consider joining up and attending!
While the group will remain a community effort, Nick assured Kevin, Lenni and Andrew that Microsoft NYC will be there to support their efforts.
NIck is inviting MVPs around the area to:
•Introduce yourselves (if you do not know Kevin and Lenni)
•Join the Meetup group today: http://www.meetup.com/NYC-NET-Developers/
•Volunteer your time over the next few years to attend and present at the group
•Connect Kevin & Lenni with other influencers to assist in recruiting speakers for the Meetup
Spread the word to your communities out there. Microsoft .NET is not just about Windows anymore, let’s build a new generation!
I am fortunate enough, as a fellow New Yawka, to know and have worked with Kevin and Lenni, and look forward to continuing bringing news and event info for the Return of the .NET group in the Big Apple!
