My first thought when I saw the term "Lean Coffee" was that it was a new Starbuck's offering.
🙂 There are many ways of running meetings, and how well each meeting goes depends upon the person running it and how they handle the other participants. It sounds like the "Lean Coffee" worked well for the Seattle company that developed it, but can be difficult to deal with for others who are more used to other methods of running meetings. Based upon your experience, I don't think I'd find that meeting style particularly helpful for me.

I certainly agree that the meeting organizer is important.
I think this is worth trying, especially if there isn't a set agenda. It was an interesting experience.

No! Absolutely not! Well, it may work with the right people.
At work, there was a woman, Diana, who thought she was project manager extraordinaire; probably because she once worked for IBM. I was involved as the developer involved in two projects that she led. In the first project, if there wasn't a federal requirements document of what the system captured, there would have been no specifications at all. In the second project, we went through a web application that I was to reproduce page by page; she'd say "We need this" much more than "This is not needed". I thought you really want REACHSC. Her plan to develop a clean slate replacement of the system of 350 web pages in eight months was unrealistic even using the "Nine Pregnant Women Project Management Model" mentioned by Frederick Brooks in his "Mythical Man Months" book.
Her meeting were also chaotic. No agenda and always going off the rail. She would enter the meeting at the starting time and proceed to hook her laptop to the network and projector, futzing for about 15 minutes to get it working. If it takes 15 minutes to get setup, then setup and be ready when the meeting starts. She scheduled one meeting from 3 PM to 4 PM. I had to leave at 4:30 PM to take my dog to a vet appointment. At 4:30, I got up and walked out. She got mad and I said I have an appointment to make.
I refused a meeting request in the past replying back with "No agenda." She no longer works here. I was a member of Toastmasters and agendas help with keeping a meeting on track.

There is an agenda here. It's just decided upon by the group when the meeting starts.
