Downgrading UAT server from EE to Dev, no space to backup DB's...

    Hi all,

    Pathetic I know, but it is what it is...can we uninstall EE, reinstall Developer Edititon, and reattach the Mdf's/Ldf's in place?  Also, can this be done for a 2005 box?  It's the same Windows server.

    I wouldn't recommend uninstalling Enterprise Edition. If you must, I'd install Dev as a second instance, Detach the database and then attach the Dev (obviously not the system databases). I still wouldn't recommend this process though, far from it. You don't have to backup to the Server, you could do so to a shared storage area, or even an external device.

    Why are going from Enterprise to Dev though? You won't be able to use the instance for production any more, and everything Developer Edition has is in Enterprise, so it makes little sense. You're only losing functionality, not gaining any.

    It's more a licensing issue, EE is the wrong edition.  And as stated in the title, it's a UAT server.
