Can I Service Pack a SQL Server when 1 db is in Standby/Read Only mode?

  • We log ship a database that is hosted by the vendor.  Looks like they service packed their server.  We now get message: System objects could not be updated in database 'xxx' because it is read-only.
A look at the log backup header shows a higher version than our server.  The log shipping still works.  I'm trying to avoid requesting a new Full from the vendor.  But was wondering if I could Service Pack my server with the Standby/Read-Only database.  I don't want the Service Pack to fail.
    Thanks everyone.

  • There was a problem affecting AlwaysOn Availability Groups in SQL 2014 causing the same error. Here is the link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3002071/fix-system-objects-not-be-updated-when-you-use-alwayson-availability-g

I would suggest you find out from the vendor what version they patched to and aim to patch your server to at least that version or higher.
