I really enjoy these quick, 1-question distractions, especially when I get them right.
Since I'm such a noob, and have NO idea about 99% of the questions here, I've made a personal rule that I can Google one question about your question (but not your exact question). After that it's educated guesswork, sometimes process of elimination.
For this one I Googled "R dataframe dplyr" and the returned search results contained the only clue I needed: dplyr makes '$' unnecessary.

I ran into this and was surprised. The syntax is strange, but what a quick easy way to aggregate.
