You're going to have to explain the subtleties of this Q&A! I (and most others, I believe) chose D because there's also a SQL Server master instance that is part of the "controller." The diagram at the bottom of
What are SQL Server Big Data Clusters?
clearly shows a master instance.
Is this just semantics surrounding the word "instance?"

I was also expecting to see a Master instance in the options, but didn't. went with my gut and got it right.

I probably shouldn't have included control in there. The master instance is a place where the query management and connectivity take place. I'll reword the naming in the answer choices.
