AlwaysON cluster suggestion

  • Hi All,

Following is the current setup 2 node OS cluster with AG on different location, primary node is a physical in primary DC and secondary is VM in a DR site.

I would like to move from physical to virtual and from 2 node to 3 node:

Primary site 2 node as HA and third node should be in DR site.

Which will be best way to do add 2 VM on primary site in the same cluster and remove the physical server from cluster (OR) build a new 3 node servers and move everything, the DBs are 200 GB, ok with downtime.

    Thank u.

  • If all your wanting to do is to basically add resiliency on your primary site then the best way would to just add in the two new VMs as nodes to the cluster, add to the AG, sync the databases and then evict the physical node.

saves messing around changing application connections strings etc.
