Reporting Services Security Issue

  • I made a report on our database server. I am an administrator there and I can run report and I get no error. I created a group for that report called ReportUsers and I added one user there test_user. Then in the Reporting Services I went to Home, Properties, New Role Assignment, added that group ReportUsers and checked Browser check box.

Then in the report itself I went to properties, Data Sources, and checked Custom DataSource and Windows Integrated Security.

When I run that report, it runs fine. But when I try to run it from the test machine as test_user, I get an error :

β€œAn error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source (error opening connection). For more info navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors.”

Why can I run that report, and another admin can run it from his machine, why test_user gets an error "cannot connect" ?

  • I found an answer myself. In the reports use only SQL server user authentication for datasources, never ever Windows because it's so screwed...
