  I have a new instance of sql 2014, per this Microsoft document:

  "In SQL Server, all user-created databases are full-text enabled by default."

  However, the option is grayed out here:

  

  Can anyone enlighten me on what should I do to enable the Full-Text index feature? Thank you very much.

  It turns out that the SQL 2014 version I installed is an Express, and Full-Text Indexing is excluded from Express.

  What can I do if I want to search varchar(2000) fields with keywords? Thank you for sharing.
