KB925902 hot fix may cause PC to crash when Printing a Reporting Services Report

  • Our office installed the MS Security Bulletin MS07-017 KB925902 (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS07-017.mspx) which was released on 4/3. On several PCs we have experienced User32.dll errors as noted in the known issues (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925902). However, when ever someone tries to print using the Reporting Services print icon (RSPrint Class ActiveX control) the PC immediately Blue Screens. The patch to the fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/) did not resolve the issue. We are using XP SP2, IE 6. I have opened a case with Microsoft, but wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing these issues?

  • Yes, one of our clients reported it this morning thinking it was a problem with our software. Thankfully it's not, and they are uninstalling the security patches so they can get through the day while they waste a resource on the phone with MS support...

  • I have also experienced this problem and am very interested in the fix.

  • I have an open case with MS and am waiting for a resolution. I will post additional information as is becomes available.

  • We are also experiencing the same issue and have a call logged with MS.

  • MS support have said that the team working on this are pretty overwhelmed at the moment and that realistically it is going to be Monday before anything gets done on this. I'll update you when I know more...

  • Thank you Rob - and everyone else who is helping out with this issue

  • No probs.

A chap from MS PSS in Sweden called today and confirmed that a hotfix is being worked on to solve this problem *but* there is no release date for the hotfix yet. I'll let you know more when I know more...

    Rob.

  • I am testing a pre-release hotfix this morning...

  • I received and tested a hotfix for this problem today. Per Microsoft: “this fix is available… it will be documented in our knowledge base using article number 935843 and any customer can call us to request a copy of the fix.”
