Diskallignment questions ?

  • In the old days blocksize and disk allignment was important for the performance.

For SQL2017 on a VM machine is this still an 'issue' ?

I haven't encountered this for years, so I think this is a thing of the past ..... Great question mark ....

Things like virtual mapping of disks, San's, SSD's with again a sort of virtual mapping, raid systems haven't they made these concepts obsolete or maybe to complex ?

Thanks for your time and attention,

    Greetings,

    Ben

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

  • It is an alleged non-problem any more.  I say "alleged" because I trust no one on such things (too many times burnt in the past).  There is a simple test to determine if it's a problem and I'll be damned if I can put my hands on the code today.  I'd have to a Yabingooglehooduck for it (again) so you might give that a try first.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
