I think I might take your offer up on the article
I would add that getting to a conference or even trying to speak can be career changing.
I attended Data relay in Nottingham and SQL in the summit and a guy from Apress publishers approached me to look at a book deal. it was completely unexpected.
In the UK there are meetups (usually in a pub and you get free pizza)
these usually have 2 or 3 speakers and might not always be your cup of tea, but engaging with your peers or being brave enough to present to your peers gives you social skills, new knowledge and connections.
And trust me... if you do present, you will learn a lot in your preparation for it

I learned at a conference that you can play Chess on Reporting Services, unfortunately I'm unable to find the sources for that or an updated Power BI version 🙂

I can't remember who it was (I think it might have been itzik ben-gan or Michael hotek) who presented a chess game in management studio - this was back at devcon2005 - your moves came out in an ascii style result set. I'd love to find the code for that!!

This year I was privileged to attend Microsoft Ignite 2019. I am honored and humbled to have gone. No one here has done to any conferences in decades, so I am very aware of the significance of my attending.
I spent a lot of time taking pictures of screen shots, coding sessions, etc. I used Microsoft Teams to share all of this with my colleagues. I really like what you said, Steve, about how some companies have scheduled time to share what they learned at such conferences with their colleagues. I'm going to find some way to do that. Probably not what you described, but there must be some way.
Kindest Regards, Rod Connect with me on LinkedIn.
