Whats difference between sql dba and sql developers? How do dbas and developers usually get assigned work? Do dba's assign developers work?<!--more-->

That would depend on the company that you work for.
Where I work, DBAs are responsible for keeping SQ:L running, while Developers are responsible for giving the DBAs grey hairs. Yes, we write the code that brings the server to its knees.

The interaction between DBAs and Database Developers can vary from company to company. The Brent Ozar article linked by Beatrix is a good overview of the different positions though. From what I've seen, sometimes a developer can assign a code review to the DBA if the company follows that kind of practice, or sometimes a DBA can assign a task to developers if there is a poorly performing query found in the production environment. The relationship works best when both sides have a mutual respect and can trust the other.
