Agree with your article Steve, GDPR was and is a big issue for a lot of companies. The response from most senior managers / directors to the GDPR issue is 'oh.. we better do something about this... we need TDE!' Really!? Most people who ultimately make the decisions do not know enough about the data within the organisation or how it is stored or controlled etc. and however much DBA's and others explain the technicalities without trying to not sound condescending and trying to steer decisions to a more meaningful conclusion and outcome, they still don't get it. Frustrating as hell.

That's very insightful editorial, Steve. So spot on. I'm curious to see what a holistic solution will look like. Looks like everyone is going through growing pains.

I don't know we're getting a holistic solution. I like what MS has done, but it's very vague and incomplete, really providing a structure, but leaving this up to individuals.
At Redgate, we're building on what MS does, providing some basic help in initial suggestions, but we're wary of moving too far forward, since MS could render lots of work obsolete if they move on this. I wish they'd announce we're moving forward, or we're not.
