Hi Deepak,
Thank you for your timely article.
I have no experience of Azure but we have been asked to look at the possibility of moving some of our SQL2008 databases to Azure instead of replacing the server in our datacentre. Given that overnight processes like DBCC CHECKDB and BACKUP consume a lot of resouces, do you think we should only capture metrics during the working day or should we capture metrics for a full 24 hour period?

Welcome Ken!
I would suggest to run the data collector for 3 to 4 different time frames for at least 2 to 3 hours each time.Also try to identify the peak hours for the database transactions and schedule to capture metrics in those hours to get the closest results.
