Hi all,
I am trying to do back up using Maintenance plan and it fails due to what reason i don;'t know
This is the error i get,
failed with the following error: "xp_create_subdir() returned error 123, 'The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.'". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set
Any one please help me.
Thanks

Is the directory valid (where you want to add a directory). Does the server have access to that folder (read/write min... full control better)?

yes. It is valid with full rights to read and write.
thanks

Can you fire up profiler, run the maintenance plan, then copy the executed sql to SSMS, then rerun, that'll give you a better idea of what is failing and maybe how to go by solving it!

It's giving a syntax error, soit's probably not a permissions issue. What is the directory path into which it should be creating the directories? And what is the name of the database(s) that it is trying to back up. My gut instinct is that some oddity in one of those two is causing it to fail.
As a test, try to create some of the directories using the mkdir command and xp_cmdshell.
