  Hi All,

  What are the options available for SQL 2012 and SQL 2016 and Azure IaaS db's databases for encrypting backups at rest.

  if not from Sql server side, are there any native tools from windows OS as well? Basically looking for options from sql side and os side.

  Hello at least since SQL Server 2014 there is backup encryption (not sure if 2012 had it):

  Also there is something called Transparent Data Encryption (was in 2012) which except backups encrypts also data files on disk:

  The difference is TDE is Enterprise edition only (unless it changed recently) while backups encryption is available in standard edition as well.

  As for Azure i have no clue, sorry.
