Not sure how to describe it...I will give it my best try. Sometimes when I go to reply to a post or start a new thread and you am typing away it may take a fair amount of time (5 minutes to most of the morning) as I can have stuff come up with work...ect.
Well I have had it happen to me more than once that when I hit the reply button\post new topic that basically the webpage reloads and everything I have typed is GONE...
Needless to say I get super irritated and don't bother re-typing what I just wrote. I have resorted to copying the text prior to hitting that button now just incase it doesn't take for some reason. I am thinking that it is some sort of timeout on the webpage...but I have no real idea.
Has anyone else come across this type of issue when posting?
To try it out...start a new post...type some text and let the window sit there for a little while (30 minutes). Then post the topic..see if it happens to you (i.e. everything you typed basically gets lost).
Thanks,
Leeland

Yeah that's some kind of session timeout. They know about it but can,t resolve at the moment. Make sure you backup your message before hitting send .

Well I am glad that it isn't just me...I was getting so irritated

Happened to me as well. Now watching my time when posting.
One other strange thing that happened was that hitting the post button got me a page with a really nasty looking stack trace of some sort. But somehow I got back to the page containing my post without having lost anything. I post again and get the error page again. After the third time I gave up - only to find that my post got posted 3 times. I deleted the extra 2 posts and all was well.

There've been HEAPS of other people who've faced the same problem and learned the hard way....I either keep saving as I'm typing or if it's particularly long then I just move over to notepad and copy and paste when I'm done...took some getting used to but now it's a matter of routine...

Be sure that you click the "Post" button and don't hit enter. I know in Firefox that sometimes causes a reload instead of a submit.
We're looking at rebuilding/replaceing the forums. Our apologies for this as this software from InstantASP is more tightly integrated than we'd like.

Thanks for the info...and don't worry about it. It is something that is minor, just have to work around it and usually only let it burn you once .
In general I love the way the posting interface is set up...hopefully it won't change drastically...I love how it is similar to a Word type interface. It is easily the nicest forum interface I am used....except for the whole loosing the post issue

There's a reason why I end all of my posts by pressing Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C -- I've had this problem many times. I'm using Microsoft Internet Explorer more often than not since I'm posting from work. Definitely not a fun issue.
I hope new forums would work nicely.
Hey Steve - any forum software out there based on SQL Server 2005?
