Contract to Hire DBA Opportunity in Northeastern CT
Job Description: The DBA will perform SQL server support and back-end database development. This position works closely with Business Analysts and Developers through all phases of project development. This position will also be responsible for creating reports using Crystal Reports.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- 50 % - Maintenance/Support
- 20 % - Design/Development
- 20% - Monitoring/Reporting
- 10% - Documentation/Change Control
Maintenance/Support
- Assist in planning, recommending and implementing changes to SQL Server architecture environments and applications, including post installation validation.
- Insure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance with regard to infrastructure configuration and practices
- Assist in recommending and overseeing database enhancements
- Analyze and resolve database and application issues affecting SQL Server environments
- Participate in on-call support rotation, providing backup DBA support for IT team
- Create and maintain SQL objects for development, test and production environments
- Plan, implement, test and document backup and recovery procedures
Design/Development- Provide assistance in planning for capacity needs of upcoming system projects
- Responsible for production installations, peer reviewing all source code and pre-implementation testing
- Help identify opportunities for consolidation of SQL Server implementations.
- Consult with application developers regarding optimal use of SQL Server and related technologies
- Test and implement new releases of SQL Server-related software
Monitoring/Reporting- Review daily loading logs, ensure data integrity
- Monitor system event and error logs
- Monitor disk drive space available to databases and transaction logs
- Help control and monitor user access and activity levels
- Performance tuning, analyze indexes and system metrics
- Assist in developing performance reviews and tuning recommendations for applications
Documentation/Change Control- Prepare documentation of systems and system changes
- Prepare project status reports where required
ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Crystal Report Administration including:
- Creating and Moving Folders
- Deleting old reports from Test area
- Granting and removing user permissions
- Upgrade Software
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two or more years practical experience on current versions of Microsoft SQL Server as a Database Administrator
- Working knowledge of database replication
- Working Knowledge of Crystal reports, Business Objects XI, Enterprise Administration
- Working Knowledge of SAN, and other storage technologies
- Practical experience with multiple servers across wide-area networks
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize logical data models
- Effective problem analysis and resolution skills
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team and to form liaisons with other groups in order to achieve stated objectives
- Ability to move projects forward on a schedule with little direct supervision
- Dedication to producing quality work and completing tasks within specified time frames
