Configuring HTTP access for Analysis Services: Web server

  • I'm interested in configuring HTTP access for SSAS, and wanted to understand what the standard practice is for deploying the web services.  Do administrators generally create a separate web server just for AS, or is IIS enabled on one of the SQL servers running the instance?  Intuitively, I'd expect it to have its own server but wanted to confirm since I didn't see documentation for infrastructure recommendations.

  • looks like although it has a lot of moving parts to set it up, there's a decent article from Ms to help with the walk through:

this link is for SQL2017, but it's still the same steps for previous versions.

  • Thanks, Lowell.

Reviewed that same documentation.  I didn't see recommendations for where to configure IIS - whether IIS should be its own web server, or is the service is okay to run alongside Analysis Services.
